The blue mustang looms like a shark.

...and I bet anyone who has read The Outsiders can tell me why that's true.

Similes help show understanding of complex things, relationships, and ideas. I was really impressed by some of the similes you all wrote about different aspects of the book. Creative, clever, and carefully considered...nice job.

Log on and share your best similes and metaphors. I know that we mentioned specifics from the books like the blue mustang, Darry's slap, Johnny's switchblade, but you can come up with your own topic too.

Get creative and think deep. The assignment wasn't easy, and you worked hard, so I think you should show off your best work!

Log on and post the best simile you wrote about the book The Outsiders.

The Greasers are like dogs. They are loyal and trustworthy. Yet they always misbehave! They can also get mean when It comes to protecting their family and friends. This is the same for Greasers. Although they may not show it all the time, they are loyal and trustworthy. They are always getting into trouble! When It comes to their gang, greasers are really protective. If someone hurts ponyboy, they try to get back.

The Socs are like cats waiting for a baby bird to fall from its tree. They are menacing and unfeeling. They pick on the helpless. However, not all socs are like that-some are good like Cheri and her friend.

I couldn't chose one so here are three-
-The Blue Mustang is like Chuckie because it terrorizing people out of their minds.
-Jonny's switch blade is like a helpless puppy that can bite because it is not theatening until it panics.
And finally
-Cherry is a needle in a haystack because she is one of a kind.

Tha,th,thats all folks!

Hey Everybody! This is my simile, but I might put a better one on later!

The Socs. are like leeches, because they suck all of the pride and hope that the Greasers have right out of them. And they don't stop sucking until you pluck them off or something happens to them.

So yeah, that was my simile. A little lame, but I liked it. Very original, I felt.

I have to say that I am stuck in the A-List rut, and I need a good challenge book to stop me from reading those addictive books! HELP!

Stay Fabulous!

Being a Greaser is like being in a flock of birds. They stick together like birds do, they don't leave anyone behind, they travel together. Birds are also free to go where they want but they always go to places together just like Greasers. Another reason is if one bird goes someplace all the birds go to that place, they are always looking out for eachother. Just like theGreasers, and how they always go places together, and never go anywhere alone, to make sure no one gets hurt, they are looking out for eachother. That's why i think being a Greaser is like being in a flock of birds.

well i think my best simile is "jonny's switch knife is like a duck with her ducklings" , because like she protects them when there in danger and keeps them safe.

The socs are like people stealing candy from a baby.
They pick fights with the Greasers even though its a very unfair advantage. They never pick a fair fight.

Darry's slap is like a gun. His are is like a weapon cocked and loaded and waiting to kill or put some one out of there misery. I can see Darry doing that cause I know what it is like to get slapped that hard by someone that much bigger than you and it sucks. Yeah that's my blog... There you go.

the socs are like hyenas in the jungle because they are crupt and terrorizing.

darry's slap is like a punch from a professional boxer, because darry is strong and it is more hurtful when it comes from someone you love.

Well I think Johnny's switch blade is like an atomic bomb because its a way of protecting something. The United States used the atomic bomb on Japan at a time when they really needed to They had to end the war. In chapter 4 in The Outsiders, (If you haven't got there I'm sorry:(, Johnny uses his switch blade to kill Bob. Now he did this because Bob was about to kill Ponyboy. Johnny couldn't let that happen to Ponyboy, his bestfriend.

-Thanks

Being a Greaser is like being a wolf in a pack because you are together and inseperable but in a pack you also have to be sure to get your cut of meat so you won't starve. There is usually a leader of a pack as well as a gang. They also all protect each other and they help out one another if one gets jumped by someone else.

The blue mustang is like a tornado warning/siren. It means something bad is coming and that you have to be ready and look out for it. Some similies are menacing, terrorizing, tough and a symbol of the socs.

I also started Never Trust A Dead Guy by Vivian Vandle Velde. It's great! It's really funny so far too. Other books by Vivian V Velde are Heir Apparent (really good) and A Well Timed Enchantment. So if anyone is looking for books, there ya go. Have a Great Weekend!!!~Hannah

Johnny's switchbalde is like a child running with paper sisscors...unharmful! Although we come to find he makes a bad choice later on in the book, Johnny would NEVER hurt someone unless he absolutely had to.

The Socs are like dogs. They always will attack or mess around w/ things. If a dog sees a squirrel or somthing it will probably go and chase it and it might accidentally kill it. The socs do the same thing accept to greaser. The socs always jump the greasers for the fun of it.

-Darry's slap is a terrorist attack because it is very suprising and it's painful and hurtful.
-The Socs are like little Princesses because they act like snobs and are rich, shallow, and too confident!

hey so this is lexi.
and i have two similies, but i can't decide which one i like better. they're both kinda stupid. so here they are:

the blue mustang is like a posessed demon. this is because it is always coming and sneaking around. and when one of the greasers sees it they get really scared.

Johnny's switchblade is like a bodyguard ready to do it's job. this is because johnny doesn't just go around using a knife, he just has it around for protection.

so there you go. kinda lame. well hey i warned you.

SIMILE!

The Socs are like a pack of hungry lions stalking their prey. They sneek up on the greasers even when they're not doing anything wrong. They know they are there, but it's just not in them to run from the Socs. After they are satisfied with waiting, the Socs pounce and attack their long and awaited late night snack!

YAY!! I just got Looking For Alaska from STENSON! Oooo im excited, you dont even know. :)

hi here are a couple of my similes.

The socs are like a virus, they lie dormant until set off by something, then when you least expect it, they destroy everything in they're path.

The blue mustang is like being in a haunted house, you never know when it will pop up again. (Just like in a haunted house you never know when someone will be around the corner.)

Johnny's switchblade is like a safety net, you hope you wont need it, but you know it's there if you do.

Thats about it!

Cherry is like a lemon. She is sweet and sour. She listened to Ponyboy and understood what he was talking about, but when her boyfriend (Bob) arrives she tells Ponyboy it's not personal if she doesn't say hi in school or anything like that. I think she was treating ponyboy like dirt. Thats why I think Cherry has a sweet side and a sour side.
------------------------------------
Another of my similies- which hannah happens to have also! :)
------------------------------------
Being a Greaser is like being a dog because they are trustworthy and loyal. Greasers also stick by your side in bad or good conditions. For example, when Johnny killed Bob, even though Ponyboy didn't really do anything he still stayed with Johnny. Dally also helped out by giving them clothing, a gun, and money.

& I just started Twilight and I'm already hooked! :)

"Life isn't always burger king- You can't always have it your way."

Okay so here it goes, just know, I'm not a writer!

Darry's Slap is like a pop-quiz because you don't know that its coming, but it lets you know how well you're doing.

The Curtis Brothers are like a bundle of Sticks because, if you get one a lone you can break them, but together they are almost unbeatable.

Ms. Stenson,
Twilight is the BEST book I have ever read! I was in a reading mood when I got home from school so I started read, and before I knew it it was 5:00 already. Then my dad got me to play a few games with him , but as soon as he left, I jumped back on my chair and thought. I need to know what happens next. And then I thought about it for a second, I have never done that with a book before. I had to pull myself away from it to come blog! I Love it!

This isn't a simile, but it's about a book, so yeah...

I'm reading "Gone With The Wind" and I swear, it's the fattest book I've ever attempted in my life. It's 1024 pages. And the smallest print ever too! I'm not going to lie and say that I'm breezing right through it and it's awesome.

I have to stop after every other page and make sure that I'm getting all of the descriptions in, and stuff. But, so far, I'm loving this book. I think I must be crazy...
But yeah, really, if there is anyone who thinks that they want a really long challenge romantic book, I say try this one. And then you can at least say that you tried to read one of the best books in American History! HeeHee!

Stay Fabulous!
