Welcome to "Keep Reading," Class of '12!

To My 8th Grade Readers!

It's great to have you here, on the "evenpuckettlikestoread" blog about reading, books, and literature. Log on from time to time to share your thoughts about good books and good literature. Or, to hear what others have to say about good books and good literature.

The topics of discussion will vary, and you all get to pipe up if you have something you really would like to see on the blog. But for today, please answer my question below. Let's see where the discussion leads us...

All year I've been nagging you to read, read, read, but why do YOU think it is important to read?

If you don't mind, tell us that last good thing you read too. It can be anything (newspaper, poetry, magazine, play, book, instruction manual...).

Here's to you, a great group of readers to work with--
Stenson

Hey Stenson! It is Zach from hour 1. We should read for the future. In college we will get many books to read. If I can be a stronger reader that will go a lot smoother than if I was a weak reader. I am reading Among the Hidden. I really like it so far and I can't wait to read more

I think reading is important because if you read you can learn alot new vocabulary. it also gives you alot of imagination . instead of watching tv you can pick up a book and it helps you learn stuff, tv just makes you dumber i think ? well reading is alot of fun if you find the right book ! a good book i read is called perfect, by natasha friend. its a really good book about a girl who is belemic and her mom makes her go to a counciling group and meets the most popular girl in her school at her group ! read it ! its really good .

Note to Stenson:
It's Conor from hour 4. I'm super glad that you have a blog spot! It's going to be so fun having a place to talk to classmates about good books they just finished or are reading!
------------------------------------------

I think we should read for many reasons. One is it helps us learn. I go by the "The more you read the more you learn" Rule. Also it's a fun thing to do! It keeps me busy, and I always have something to do if I'm bored!

I have a few books that I have read in the past that I Love. One was A Wrinkle In Time By, Madeleine L'Engle. It is a wonderful book. I have Read two of the other books in the set and I'm going to go back and read all five. Another great book is Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. It's a super good book, but it's a bit of a hard read sometimes. I would read it if you like more Mature books. Right now I am reading To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee. I also like ths book. I have heard So many people say how much they Loved reading this book so I thought I would read it too!

Nate,
What was Born to Rock about, and why didn;t you like it?

Okay so it wouldn't let me have the display name I wanted so it's now Hayley Springer which is super boring, but oh well.. anyways, I have to say the best series of books I have EVER read are by Madeline L'engle, who just died September 7 which is SOOO sad. She was 82 or something like that.. but either way her books are the best. The summary is below from wikipedia. Meg Murry is a teenage girl, regarded by her peers and teachers as a bad-tempered underachiever. Her family recognizes her problem as a lack of emotional maturity but also regards her as being capable of great things. The family includes her beautiful scientist mother, her mysteriously missing scientist father, her five-year-old brother Charles Wallace Murry —a nascent super-genius— and ten-year-old twin athlete brothers Sandy and Dennys Murry.
The book begins with the line, "It was a dark and stormy night," an allusion to the opening words in Edward George Bulwer-Lytton's 1830 novel Paul Clifford (though probably more familiar to juvenile readers through Snoopy's writings in the comic strip Peanuts). The Murrys are visited by an eccentric old woman named Mrs Whatsit, who has previously made the acquaintance of Charles Wallace. After drying her feet and having a midnight snack with Charles, Meg and their mother, Mrs Whatsit tells an already perplexed Dr. Murry that "there is such a thing as a tesseract."
Shortly thereafter, Meg and Charles encounter Meg's schoolmate Calvin O'Keefe, a high school junior who, although he is a stereotypical "big man on campus", turns out to be keen to join the children for further encounters with Mrs Whatsit and her equally eccentric friends Mrs Who and Mrs Which.
Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who, and Mrs Which turn out to be transcendental beings who transport Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin through the galaxy by means of tesseracts, or the 'fourth dimension', which are explained as being similar to "folding" the fabric of space and time, and in s doing, the tesser would be able to travel through time or space. The "Mrs W's" reveal to the children that the galaxy is under attack from a dark cloud, which is the visible manifestation of evil. Meg's missing father was working on a secret government project to achieve faster-than-light travel through a tesseract, and accidentally wound up on Camazotz, an alien planet inside the "Black Thing". The children also discover that Earth is partially covered by the darkness, although great religious figures, philosophers, and artists are fighting against it. They also learn that Mrs Whatsit was a star who exploded in an act of self-sacrifice to fight the darkness.
The children travel to Camazotz and rescue Meg's father, who has been imprisoned by an evil disembodied brain with powerful telepathic abilities, which the inhabitants of Camazotz call "IT". However, Charles Wallace is mentally dominated by IT, and is left behind when the others flee, tessering through the Black Thing to a planet inhabited by sightless but wise beasts. When she arrives, Meg is paralyzed, and coldly resentful. Meg recovers and is sent back to Camazotz alone, having been told that only she has the power to rescue Charles Wallace. Confronting IT, Meg realizes that she can free her brother by loving him intensely, because love is an emotion that IT, in IT's evil, cannot stand. Charles Wallace is freed, and the three Murrys and Calvin return home.

I hate reading long summaries like that, but basically it's really good, and guys and girls will love this book. There is 2, maybe even 3 more after A Wrinkle In Time. If you have any reccomendations for me, let me know! k, bye.<3

Hey Everybody!
I think it's important to read because it makes you way smarter and more knowledgable !

A book series that I am in LOVE with is "The Clique". It's really fluffy-light reading and I'm pretty sure that everyone has either read them or at least heard about them. A book that I am going to start is "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen. It's a classic!

Hailey--I want to read "Pride and Prejudice"! Tell me what you think!

...Stay Fabulous!

Hi. I just finished the clique series, and i thought they were REALLY good if you like chic-flick books. I also just read Freaky-Green Eyes, and i didnt like it. It took a really long time to get into. The ending was pretty pre-dictable, and I think the author could have made the book more interesting. Right now, I am currently reading The Lovely Bones, and i think its pretty good.

Hi Ms. Stenson
I think reading is important because it not only makes you a better reader, but a better writer. Reading and writing are obviously life skills, which I think kind of sums up their importance. You use them ALL the time. Especially writing. The more accurately you can express your thoughts, the better people will understand you.
Over the summer I read The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Or maybe Steven Chbosky, I'm not really sure. But I loveloveloved it, it's so interesting and original, and really made me think while I read.. I love books that make me think. Also Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. That guy is pretty much amazing.

Hey Ms. Stenson! I read an awesome book this summer! It was called Goosegirl and it was written by Shannon Hale. It was soooo cool. If you like exciting fairy tales then it's the book for you. Hey, how is it going? I have just read a really good book. This book is about a girl who is about 16 years old, and she and her friend have been acceped to a barding school in Italy. This boarding school is a scool where only very smart and responsible people are accepeted. This girl is very luckey to get in because she did not do very well in her grade last year, but the only thing that got her in was her persistance. i wouldn't say that this book is for the male type, it is more of a girly book about school. Normaly i wouldn't read these kinds of books, but this booked lokked different, and I was right... The bok is called "Getting The Boot"

Heyyy Stenson its Stenbeck from H8LA (ha, wink wink!) Even though i dont always want to take a breather and read, i still think its really important b/c it works your mind kind of without you actually knowing it. It puts you through some sort of imaginary process that makes you feel as though your in your story or as if you've been standing next to each character all along flowing there story. BUT... idk if you've ever read "someone like you" by sarah dessen, but omg is it ever good! Just an all around good book that takes you through roughly a 9 month period of two best friends, one of which who is carrying a baby && the struggles they face.

..........

sry guys, this one prob isnt the best book for you,,kinda girlyyy : )
