Turning it over to the 8th grade experts.

A great year of great books...

To get a bigger, better, larger, longer list of good books started, I'm turning this over to my students.

To all my Rockstar Readers out there, tell me, what was the best book you read all year. See if you can give us a one sentence summary about the book.

I just finished a book, called "A Brief Chapter in My Impossible Life" by Dana Reinhardt. I would rate it a 10+ because it is such a realistic book, and I think people my age would really like to read it. I'm not the kind of person that loves to read, I actually hate it in some ways. But when I began reading this book, I couldn't keep my hands off. So, if you're looking for a good book, I would highly recommend this one.

Hey Everybody! A couple days ago I finally finished the sixth Harry Potter for the second time. I've always loved the Harry Potter series, and strongly recommend them. But then I was thinking about the movie Pride and Prejudice and how much I loved it. So I decided to read the book. It's pretty difficult, but Jane Austen is an awesome writer and I love it so far. I'm determined to finish it no matter what! It may take me a while though...I hope Ms. Stenson gives me some extra credit!

Hello All. I have a couple of things to say...

1. Jennifer, I tried to find your book at my library. No luck, but I can't wait to read it.

2. Emily, no only do you get EC for reading Pride and Prejudice, but even more for posting so soon. I will try to re-read it this summer so we can chat about Ms. Austen.

3. Anna, I've tried to read those books. Not only do they seem to appeal to girls, they also appeal to those under 30. I don't even know what most of the "words" mean. I had to sound out the title!

4. I checked out about 12 books from the library tonight because we don't have much planned for this three-day weekend. I'll keep you all updated. Please do the same.

Havea great holiday weekend. Keep reading, stay out of trouble, and above all, have fun.

I also read A Brief Chapter in My Impossible Life. And i agree with Jennifer, it is a great book. I think this book is great for both boys and girls. I know a lot of my friends have read it and felt the same way.

The best book I have read this year is "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer. There's a lot of pages, but I thought it went quick. It's pretty romantic, so I think girls would like it better than boys. The sequel is called "New Moon" and I liked that book a lot too. I would definitely recommend reading these books.

So i have started reading this book called Doormat by Kelly McWilliams and is is good so far. As a lot of the other comments this is a book for girls. Its about these 2 friends that go through a lot and one of them thinks she might be pregnant and she is like young! This book was written by a girl like our age or a little older. I am not that far so i hope it stays good.

Hey! I just finished the book "Goose Girl" by Shannon Hale. Ms. Stenson recommended it to me and I was disappointed to see that all school library books were due on Friday so I was forced to return it. After school I went right to the library, checked it out and picked up where I left off. I finished the last hundred pages in no time and am possibly going to re-read it. Thanks for your input Ms. Stenson!!

Hey everybody! I love a book I got a book sell at the Bloomington Libary. Its called Dancing In the Streets In Brooklyn. Its based back during the 1940's. I love it cause it tells you about how people lost there family members in the war. A main charcter named Andy lost his dad. It really has nothing to do with dancing and there are some slow parts. But not many. Its not a must read but if your bored over the summer I'd choose this one.Its a awsome book and you just gotta read it to know more! By the way Miss. Stenson have you thought about a myspace i bet alot more kids would tell you what your reading. -Kaitlyn

Hey ya'll! I just remember another book its called Stop Pretending. Its a true story about how a a girl went kinda crazy and was put in a hospital. Her younger sister had to live with this secret and never told anyone for along time! But when she told her two best friend they treated her like she was the crazy one. They told the whole school. Its an awsome book a MUST READ!!! Sonya Sones wrote it. She also wrote 2 fiction books that I've also read. One Of Thoses Horrible Books Where The Mothers Dies. I know the title is freaky i thought so to but its an awsome book. Shes lived in New York all her live until her mother died when she was around are age. She had to move to L.A with her father who just happens to a famous movie star. She treats her da really bad she think hes evil. But come to find out hes not that bad at all. You'll love the ending. Her other book is called What My Mother Doesn't Know. Thats the best of the three i thinj. Shes dating a hottie but fines her self thinking of a dorky guy named Robin. At the end of the book she doesn't have the courage to tell her friends she going out with dorky Robin. But at lunch whem the whole grades around she goes and sits with him holding his hand. She has made a sequel to it called What My Girlfriend doesn't Know. Its from Robins point of veiw. It should be interesting its coming out in June Sometime. I can't wait. Well I think I've written enough for 1 day! -Kaitlyn

The book I read this year that was really good was Soldier X. Like Jennifer I don't read if I don't have to. But this book was really good as long as you like war stories. The other book that was good was looking for Alaska. Ms.Stenson gave it to Jon and it got passed around. Both book would get 10/10 from me.

Hey ya'll! Well my dad finally drag me to the book store. I wasn't to happy cause it was still the begining of summer and I didn't want to read but I found out the sequal to "What My Mother Doesn't Know"! This book is this popular girl that is telling the story of her 9th grade year. Even though she is madly in love with her as they say in the book mega hottie boyfriend she finds herself thinking about making out with this really nerdy guy thats like on the bottom of the social status. Where shes like the most popularest girl in the school. She shakes it off but finds herself getting in a relationship with a guy on the internet! But she finds out hes a total perv. You gotta read the rest to find out more! But the second book is called " What My Girlfriend Doesn't know" Its told by the girl in the first books new boyfriend. Lets just say if thats whats really goes on in a 14 year old boys mind I know way to much! But none the less its a good book! A easy summer read to impress Miss. Stenson!

the best book that I've read all year was The Tale of Despereaux by Kate Dicamillo. you will find youself reading this book over and over again it is so good. it is about a mouse who lives in a casle, his name is Despereaux. He is in love with a human princess who lives in the casle as well. he finds a story book in the casle and the book starts with "once upon a time" he loves those words. he is caught by his mouse peers when he is sitting at the foot of the king litsening to music that the king was playing for his daughter, the princess. he is sent to the dungon for talking to the princess. however he reconises the power of love, light and bravery and it makes him a better mouse. he thinks of himself as a night in shining armor, rescueing the princess pea. this is a great book that will take your heart on a adventure.

Hey guys!
Well I really have not been reading at all furing the summer to tell you the truth. A part of it is because I dont have a good book (so I need suggestions!!!!) Also another part is just because I am to lazy to pick up a bppk and read. Knowing that it is summer I get distracted with all of the fun things that are going on now! Well hope to hear from you soon Stenson!

Hi Courtney B! It's so nice to hear from you.

Look at my new posts for some suggestions, and when I have a bit more time, I'll send a few more titles your way that I think you'd like.

I completey understand that it's hard to read in the summer, but I think one book a month is a good goal.

I know I sound teacher-y, but I do think you should read SOMETHING during the summer. Even magazines count...anyway, I'll send a mention a few titles tomorrow. Look for a brand new post about good books. And in the meantime, look at my recent posts for a few books I have been recommending.

Later, Courtney. So good to hear from you!
