The pile on my nightstand.

Have you ever been tempted to fake sick and stay in bed and read? Those of you who are reading during math class, science class, health class...I know you know that feeling! Don't worry, Mr. Knoss, I'd never do that, but it sure would help with that pile of books on my nightstand!

On the list of books Stenson is looking forward to reading soon:

1. Orphelia by ?? Maddy M gave it to me, it's based on Shakespeare's Hamlet, and it looks like a book to get lost inside of.

2. What Would Martin Say by Clarence Jones (non-fiction about Martin Luther King Jr. written by close friend and personal lawyer)

3. Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard (I ran into one of my favorite college professors, and she's the one who first introduced me to Ms. Dillard. This is not a book I would recommend to most 8th graders because there isn't really a plot. It's a narrative created with brilliant language, written, I think, to call careful attention to how glorious Nature is.

4. Dog Years by Mark Doty (Everyone knows my best friend--besides Ms. Sbrocco--is my loyal, lovely black lab Puckett. I can't pass up a book about dogs and the gifts they bring this planet).

5. There are also three poetry books in my stack of books. I don't really understand poetry very well....but much like I preach to my student...reading (poetry too) is like anything else; you have to practice it.

6. Playing for Pizza by John Grisham (those of you who love a suspense or mystery would love Grisham's books. However, this novel of his isn't a mystery or thriller, but I've always been a fan of his, so I'd like to read this one too).

Anyway, tell me what you are reading or what is on your list of "Books to Read Soon".

Can't wait to hear the titles. Can't wait to jump back into that pile on my nightstand.

Here's to those never-ending lists of books we can't wait to get our hands on!

No, I have never faked sick to read and not go to school. I haven't ever found a book that is that great that I would want to stay home from school. Personally I could never sit in one place all day let alone read all day. Call me crazy but I don't think that sounds fun, to me I would much rather go to school. If anybody has any books that you loved to read just but the title on your bog and I will be sure to check it out.

Hi Ms. Stenson i am reading this book called "Rob&Sara.com" its an okay book but not as good as the other books that I read. I really love the book that I have picked a book I can't quite remember what its called oh wait its "Life As We Knew It" but its about a girl that discovered her stepmom is having a baby girl and is going to be the godmother. But also witnesses a lunar impact that knocks the moon closer in orbit, catastrophically altering the earth's climate. I hope I like this book Stenson I owe you if I like it.

Yea, I have to agree with everyone else, that I haven't stayed home from school to read, but sometimes, I really want to! Right now, the book I am TRYING very hard to get into is called The Overachievers, and Dani=) gave it to me. I realize that this book has a ton of potential, but i have so many problems getting into books.. even though I am on page 75! Any reccomendations?! I love books that are super easy to get into, and that have a good plot! Thanks a bunch guys!

Hey!
I'm re-reading "The Second Summer of the Sisterhood" because the 2nd movie is coming out soon. The only problem with movies and books is that you have to read the books first before you see the movie because if you do it in the reverse order then all you see is Blake Lively as Bridget. (That's who plays one of the characters in the book.) Luckily, with this movie, the cast is very well done, but anyways...

I really don't have any reccomendations, because I've just been reading Gossip Girl lately, so I need to get back into something worth-while and meaningful.
I'm trying to get my hands on "13 Reasons Why". So if anyone is hoarding it, hand it over!

Hey!! Gossip Girl rocks!! I love the series!! But if anyone is trying to get into it, the first book might set you off, but the second book gets way better.
I read rob&sara.com and I really liked it.
A book I would recommend(even though I think Hayley;s read it) is Nick and Nora's infinite playlist.
I also read Twilight (again) and it gets better every time I read it!! So that's a good one too!!
I haven't blogged in forever!!
And as for the staying home sick b/c of a book, although I've never done it.......teehee.......It would be pretty cool!!!!
OH! If you haven't read Airborn, It's an amazing book!! It takes a few chapters to get into, and the cover doesn't look very appealing, but trust me, It's a great book!!!

Speaking of books you can't put down.. I am reading My Sister's Keeper, and I know why I have seen so many people reading it! It is really good, with sad, and kind of a "twisted" beginning, and the best part of the book I think is that everyone in the book has their own point of view, that you get to read from chapter to chapter, and it's incredible, and really strong writing, with loads of character. This is a book I can't put down! =)

It's great to see so many posts! Yea!

The House on Mango Street!?!?!? Dancia! It's only one of my favorite books. I can't wait for you to read it, but I must warn you: it's a book to be talked about and shared, not just read. Remeber that, and if you need someone to talk it over with, I'm only an email away!

I love Esperanza and her big life and larger heart. I just love her! You'll love her too. Enjoy.
