Summer Reading

Hi all! Summer vacation is officially under way, and it's time to share summer reading highlights (and lowlights).

For the first time, I picked up a graphic novel at the library. American Born Chinese tells a great story, carries a powerful message, and has the COOLEST illustrations, not to mention creative comic book storytelling.

The author, Gene Yang, won the 2007 Michael L. Printz award for this book. If I had any sort of important award to hand out, I'd give it to him in a heartbeat. But I don't, so all I can do is share the title in hopes that many of you will get out there and get your hands on it.

So, here are three things I'm wondering...

1. Who will read American Born Chinese by Gene Lang? Graphic novels are cool. Read it and tell me what you think.

2. What else you are reading? Share with us!

3. Slowly but surely, I'm making it through my summer list. What's on yours?

Hoping to hear from you--

Stenson

I haven't read very much of anything so far this summer but I thought you might like to know that I recently started work on a book of my own which I've entitled "Silence and the Star" Silence being the universe and The Star being our sun. Both the sun and the universe are the main characters. I'm about 20 or so pages into it and I've astonished myself. I never thought I could just pull idea after idea out of the top of my head and make a story from it. Basically it's all about the beginning of time and life as we know it. I have no idea when I'll be finished but I am looking forward to sharing it with other people.

Patrick the Author. It has a lovely ring. How long before I get to see a draft?

So proud of you, Patrick. Sounds very cool and very you. I love it. Go, Patrick, Go!

Read something now and then too. Good literature will bring out the good writer in you. I promise.

Stay in touch,
Stenson

p.s. WHAT ARE PEOPLE READING?

I finished reading "Magic or Madness".
It's about this girl named Reason.
She grew up with her mom.Her mom told her magic doesn't exist, but Reason can really do magic. She and her mom is running away from her grandmother. But when her mom started going mad she is forced to live with her grandmother at Sydney, Australia. While she is exploring her grandmother's house she found a door. A door that is connected with New York. That's when she found out magic does exist, and her questions will soon be answered as soon as she crosses that door.

Magic or Madness.
"I like this book because....
Either you don't do magic and go mad or do magic but die early." v(^*^)v

Good to hear from you, Jimlaine!

I bet Magic or Madness was about the 10th book you finished this summer. But it sounds great, and I'll have to check it out.

See if you can find a copy of American Born Chinese. I blogged about it in the last blog. Check it out, check it out, check it out!

I'll be looking for your post soon,
Stenson

I finished reading "Unseen, it begins"
It's about a girl named Lucy. Her mom died, so she has to live on her aunt's town. One day she was so depressed and overwhelmed by her loss. She went out and had a walk. then she became convinced that someone is following her. So she started to run in a cemetery hoping she would loose her stalker.
While she was there a dying girl grabbed her. She wanted to help the dying girl but it was too late. The dying girl passed something to Lucy ,leaving a crescent mark on her
